School of Business > Research > About This Site

The School of Business research web site helps our faculty and PhD students share information about their research and professional backgrounds. The following information is intended to answer general questions about this web site for those who would like to obtain an individual account:

Who may get an account on this site?
UW-Madison School of Business faculty and PhD students.

For what purposes may this account be used?
You may use your account to create your own web site for anything related to your research. For example, you can share your working papers with colleagues, post your CV, conduct online surveys, or offer links to your publications (Please note that you may not post copies of your publications unless you’ve received copyright release from the journal or publisher).

I already have my stuff on our department site / elsewhere. Why should I bother to move it here?
Moving your research materials to this site offers a few key benefits:

  • You will have direct authoring access to your materials. When you want to list your latest journal publication or need to update your CV, you can do it without waiting for someone else to update the information for you.
  • You will have a lot more freedom to post items on a broad range of topics related to your research. Space within department sites is reserved primarily for academic information, whereas on this site you can share downloadable versions of your working papers or even develop web-based forms for surveys and other purposes.
  • Content within your research site can be retrieved from the main School of Business search page. If you're listing your materials on a personal web site right now, then it's more difficult for visitors to find your information when they come to the school's site.

What will I need in order to update my web site?
You'll need Microsoft FrontPage 2000 and a working knowledge of it. DoIT offers training sessions throughout the year.

What will my web site address be?
Your address is based upon your first initial and last name. For example, if your name is John Doe, then your address on this site will be:
http://www.bus.wisc.edu/research/jdoe/

How do I get my account?
Simply apply online and you'll receive notification when the account is ready.

Whom do I contact if I have additional questions?
The research web site is maintained by the Technology Support Center (TSC). Please contact Beth Wiebusch in room 4270 Grainger Hall for additional assistance.
